Source: the aircraft maintenance manual. FAA-H-8083-31B has no water and waste chapter; see the note below.
Six elements — the smallest subject in the certificate, and both skills are Locate. No station requirement.
There is no water and waste chapter in FAA-H-8083-31B. Checked against the handbook on 28 August 2026: it has seventeen chapters and none of them covers these systems. "Potable water" appears twice in the whole book, both times in passing — once in a figure listing ice-protected lines, once as a label on a pneumatic diagram. The source line above named a chapter that does not exist. The AMM is the source for this unit, which the table below already said. Checked by our handbook citation check.
| Element | The ACS asks for | Where in FAA-H-8083-31B | Read it for |
|---|---|---|---|
K1 |
Potable water system components and operation | Not in this handbook | Tanks, pressurization, distribution, quantity indication, drain masts |
K2 |
Lavatory waste system components and operation | Not in this handbook | Recirculating and vacuum systems, flush charge, rinse ring, waste tank |
K3 |
Inspection and servicing requirements | Not in this handbook | The AMM supplies quantities, sequences and intervals |
R1 |
Servicing lavatory waste systems, including safety equipment | Not in this handbook | The safety data sheet for the flush concentrate |
S1, S2 |
Locate and explain servicing procedures — waste, then potable water | Not in this handbook | The AMM is the object of the skill, not our summary of it |
The operative source
The aircraft maintenance manual. Both skills are Locate elements, which means the candidate works with a real manual rather than with a description of one.
